DATA STUDY · NOVEMBER 2026

How far back can you get bank statements?
We checked 23 banks.

Most big U.S. banks let you download up to 7 years of statements online, but not all: Bank of America shows 6 years, Navy Federal 36 months, Fifth Third 24 months and Huntington about 2 years. Of 23 banks and fintechs ZeraBooks checked, 11 publish no number at all. Card statements often disappear sooner than bank statements.

WHAT IT MEANS

Why this decides how hard a catch-up is

A business that is 28 months behind with a Wells Fargo checking account can download every statement it needs. The same business with a Wells Fargo card and a Huntington savings account can’t: both windows reach back about 24 months, so the oldest 4 months of each have to be ordered from the bank. That is 8 requests out of 84 statements, and they are always the ones you need first.

The fix is boring. Order the old months on day one, before anything else, because they are the part you can’t speed up. Then convert what you can download while you wait. Our catch-up bookkeeping page lays out the order.

Save the PDFs as they arrive, every month, even if no one looks at them. The bank’s window is shorter than the time you are expected to keep records, and once a month falls out of it, getting it back costs time and sometimes a fee.

METHOD

How we got these numbers

Sample
23 U.S. banks, card issuers and fintechs, from the big four to online-only business accounts.
Source
Each bank’s own help or FAQ pages, read between October 12 and November 6, 2026. No forums, no third-party lists.
Unknown
Where the bank’s own pages gave no figure we could stand behind, we wrote unknown or not stated rather than guess.

ONCE YOU HAVE THEM

Turning a stack of old statements into one file

However far back the bank goes, the PDFs still have to become rows. The ZeraBooks bank statement converter reads every month and proves each one against its printed opening and closing balance.

Ask Damin directly
How far back can I get bank statements online?

Usually, by asking the bank. Most of the 23 banks take requests for older months; some charge per statement, for example Regions charges $5 each.
