Client accounting services automation
that closes every client’s month with proof.

CPA firms automate client accounting services by letting software do each client’s monthly cycle: statements in, transactions categorized from that client’s history, every account reconciled to its printed balance, and the month closed with reports. ZeraBooks does this in an AI-native general ledger and builds custom setups for CPA firms. Referrals from top-10 U.S. firms are available on request.

We reply by email within one business day. A call with Damin is optional.

The Reconciliations timeline: one row per account and one dot per month, showing months that tie, months that need a look, coverage gaps and finalized months.

THE MONTHLY CYCLE

Which parts of a CAS client’s month can be automated?

A CAS engagement repeats the same cycle for every client, every month. Here is who does each step once ZeraBooks is in the middle of it.

StepWhat ZeraBooks doesWhat your staff do
CollectReads bank and card statements uploaded as PDF or CSV, checking each against its opening and closing balanceGet the statements from the client
CategorizeAI categorizes from that client’s reviewed history, acts when sure and asks when notAnswer the questions; correct one line and similar lines follow
Bills and invoicesReads bills from PDF and matches payments and deposits to open bills and invoicesApprove bills; chase clients on unclear items
ReconcileCompares each account’s month with its statement and shows any differenceReview the accounts that don’t tie
CloseDrafts month-end entries; months that tie are signed off and the books closed through that dateApprove entries and sign off
ReportP&L, balance sheet, cash flow and trial balance from the same books, in a month-end report packageAdd commentary and send it to the client

The full close order is in our month-end close checklist. The reconciliation side is explained on bank reconciliation software.

CONTROLS

How does a CPA firm keep control when AI does the bookkeeping?

Partners sign off on these books, so the automation has to show its work and stop when it isn’t sure.

REVIEW AND UNDO

Every AI action listed, every one reversible.

Autopilot lists what the AI did, asks one-tap questions about what it couldn’t decide, and undoes any action from the log. Nothing the AI does is hidden in a bulk import.

Autopilot: what the AI did, one-tap questions, undo.

PROOF

Months tie to the statement, or they don’t close.

Each account’s month is compared with its printed statement balance. A month that doesn’t tie shows the difference, and AI verification re-reads the statement and proposes only fixes that make it tie, each quoting the line from the document.

CLOSE

Closed months stay closed.

Once a month is signed off, the books are closed through that date. Reopening is deliberate, so a late change can’t quietly move a number a client already has in a report.

Tied, signed off and closed.

HOW FIRMS START

How does a CPA firm roll out CAS automation?

ZeraBooks builds custom solutions specifically for accounting firms.

  • One staff member, a few clients

Start on the public plan with the clients whose months take longest, and compare. Pricing per client is on bookkeeping automation for bookkeepers.

  • Client statements in your workpaper layout

Firms that also convert statements for tax and audit work can have the bank statement converter tailored to the firm for free.

  • A CAS team with its own workflow

A dedicated instance, your document types, connections to your systems or your own reports. That is ZeraBooks Enterprise, scoped and priced with each firm.

  • References first

Used for financial data extraction by teams at top-10 U.S. accounting firms. Customer references are available on request. Referrals from top-10 U.S. accounting firms are available as references on request.

QUESTIONS

Client accounting services automation: common questions

Talk about your CAS work
What is client accounting services (CAS)?

CAS is the outsourced accounting a CPA firm does for clients during the year: bookkeeping, reconciliations, the monthly close, reporting and often bill pay and payroll. It is billed monthly, which makes the repeated monthly work the part worth automating.

Can clients log in to see their books?

Not on the public plan: a ZeraBooks account is for one person, with no client logins or team roles. Firms share results by publishing or emailing reports. Firms that need something the public plan doesn’t do can talk to us about ZeraBooks Enterprise.

Does ZeraBooks replace QuickBooks Online for CAS clients?

For the ledger, yes: each client’s books live in ZeraBooks. You move a client over with the closing trial balance and open invoice and bill reports. There is no QuickBooks or Xero sync, and no bank feeds; statements are uploaded.

Is the AI doing the accounting?

The AI reads documents, suggests categories and drafts entries. ZeraBooks calculates every number itself, staff approve what the AI proposes, and every action can be undone. Judgment and sign-off stay with the firm.

How is it priced for a firm?

The public plan is $79 a month billed annually with 3 client companies included, then $29 a month per extra client; see ZeraBooks pricing. Firm builds on Enterprise are scoped and priced with each firm. Our software overview for accountants covers the rest of the product.
