HOW TO CHOOSE

Five questions to ask any AI accounting tool

  • Does the AI do the work, or suggest it?

Some tools categorize and wait; others work through bills, matching, reconciliation and month-end entries on their own and ask only when unsure.

  • Who does the arithmetic?

In ZeraBooks the AI makes judgment calls and the ledger calculates every amount. Ask any vendor the same question.

  • Can you undo what the AI did?

Look for a log of every AI action with an undo, and controls for how sure the AI must be before it acts.

  • How are the books proven?

Bank feeds keep transactions current; statements carry the bank’s own printed balances. Ask how each month is proven to tie.

  • What does it cost at your size?

Compare plan tiers, per-entity pricing and whether client books cost extra.

QUESTIONS

Best AI accounting software: common questions

Ask Damin directly
Which AI is best for accounting?

For keeping the books, use accounting software with AI built into the ledger rather than a general chatbot. ZeraBooks, Digits and Puzzle are AI-native ledgers; QuickBooks Online and Xero add AI to established ledgers; Booke AI adds an AI bookkeeper on top of QuickBooks or Xero.

Is there any AI accounting software?

Yes. AI accounting software reads transactions and documents, categorizes them and drafts entries inside a general ledger. Examples include ZeraBooks, Digits, Puzzle and Rillet, plus AI features in QuickBooks Online (Intuit Intelligence) and Xero (JAX).

What is the best free AI tool for accounting?

Most AI accounting software is paid after a trial. QuickBooks lists a Free plan, Digits offers a 30-day free trial, and ZeraBooks offers a 7-day free trial with every feature included.

What is the difference between AI accounting software and AI bookkeeping software?

The terms overlap. Bookkeeping is recording and categorizing transactions and reconciling accounts; accounting adds month-end entries, financial statements and analysis. ZeraBooks covers both in one double-entry general ledger.

Is ZeraBooks an alternative to Digits?

Yes. Both are AI-native ledgers. ZeraBooks works from uploaded statements and proves each month against the bank’s printed balances, includes a document Converter, and serves businesses outside the U.S. too; Digits uses bank feeds and serves U.S.-based entities. ZeraBooks is $79 a month billed annually; Digits lists $65 to $100 a month.
