DATA STUDY · NOVEMBER 2026

What AI bookkeeping software costs,
with the ledger underneath counted in.

AI bookkeeping software costs about $65 to $500 a month in 2026, but the sticker price misleads: several tools sit on top of QuickBooks Online or Xero, which you pay for too. ZeraBooks is $79 a month billed annually, with the general ledger, the AI and a statement converter in one plan. Booke AI plus QuickBooks Online comes to $167.

WHAT IT MEANS

Reading AI bookkeeping prices without getting fooled

Ask first whether the tool is the ledger or sits on one. Booke AI says it is not a new ledger: it works inside QuickBooks Online or Xero, so its $129 is on top of that subscription. Dext, Hubdoc, AutoEntry and Nanonets capture documents and hand data to something else; none of them keeps the books. ZeraBooks, Docyt and Digits each keep their own ledger.

Then ask where the transactions come from. Most of these tools depend on bank feeds. ZeraBooks works from the statements you upload and proves each one against its printed opening and closing balance, which matters when a feed drops a month or a client hands you a shoebox of PDFs. ZeraBooks has no bank feeds, so if a live feed is the one thing you need, that is worth knowing up front.

Finally, count clients if you are a firm. ZeraBooks includes 3 client companies and charges $29 a month or $290 a year for each one after that. A firm with 7 clients pays $265 a month, or $2,108 a year on annual billing. Booke AI and Docyt don’t publish firm prices.

QUESTIONS

AI bookkeeping software pricing: common questions

Ask Damin directly
Who is buying AI bookkeeping software?

Mostly firms short on staff. The accounting and bookkeeping statistics for 2026 show why.

How much does AI bookkeeping software cost?

From about $65 to $500 a month for the tools that publish a price. ZeraBooks is $79 a month billed annually or $149 monthly, with the ledger included. Add-on tools like Booke AI cost $129 on top of QuickBooks Online or Xero.

Is AI bookkeeping cheaper than a bookkeeper?

The software is. A person still reviews the books, but the hours drop. If you’d rather hand the whole job over, ZeraBooks bookkeeping services start at $150 a month.

Does ZeraBooks need QuickBooks or Xero?

No. ZeraBooks is its own double-entry general ledger. It doesn’t sync with QuickBooks or Xero.
