# Change your plan

Move to a bigger or smaller Convert plan, or between monthly and yearly billing, on the Billing page. You see the exact charge before you confirm, and can manage your card and invoices.

## Choose a new plan

1. Click **ZeraBooks Convert** at the top of the sidebar, then click **Billing**.
2. Find the **Change plan** card.
3. Choose **Monthly** or **Yearly · save up to 47%**.
4. Click the plan you want. Your current plan is marked **Current** and can't be clicked.

5. Read the price preview that appears under the plans. It tells you exactly when the change happens and what you pay.
6. Click **Confirm**, or **Cancel** to change nothing.

Each plan card shows its price a month (on **Yearly**, also the price a year) and its pages. See [Plans and pages](https://www.zerabooks.com/help/convert-plan-and-settings/plans-and-pages).

## Move up without leaving the page

You don't have to come to **Billing** to get more pages. From 80% of your pages, and when they're used, a **Get more pages** button appears on the document pages, on the **Pages** card on **Home** and on **Billing** itself. It opens the **Get more pages** dialog: choose an option, check what you pay **today**, and click **Move up · $X today**. See [Plans and pages](https://www.zerabooks.com/help/convert-plan-and-settings/plans-and-pages).

When you've used your plan's pages, new uploads wait with a message naming the next plan, for example "You've used your 1,000 pages for this month. Move to ZeraBooks 2,500 to keep converting." Click **Get more pages and convert it**, move up, and the waiting file converts automatically. A document already converting always finishes. On monthly billing, the dialog also offers your plan **billed yearly**: the whole year's pages open at once (for example 12,000 on ZeraBooks), and today's charge already credits the unused part of your month. On the top plan billed yearly, click **Book a call** and we'll set up a plan for your volume.

## Start your plan during the free trial

The free trial includes 1,000 pages. To get your plan's full pages sooner, click **Start my plan now** on the **Your plan** card (or **Start your plan now** when you're close to the trial's pages). The dialog offers **Start {plan} now** for your plan and for each bigger plan, each with today's price: "Your trial ends today and {plan} starts: $X charged to the card on file…" Pick one, click **Start now · $X**, and its full pages open at once.

If the card is declined, nothing changes and you stay on your trial: "The plan couldn't be charged, so nothing changed. Check your card in Manage billing and try again."

## When a change takes effect

| Change | When | What you pay |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Moving up to a bigger plan | Now | Today's charge for the time left (prorated), then the new price |
| Changing plan during the free trial | Now; the trial continues | Nothing today; the new plan's price when the trial ends |
| Monthly to yearly | Now | Today's charge, then the yearly price |
| Moving down to a smaller plan | At your renewal | Nothing until renewal, then the new price |
| Yearly to monthly | At your renewal | Nothing until renewal, then the monthly price |

A bigger plan chosen together with a switch from yearly to monthly also waits for your renewal.

The preview reads one of these:

- **Now:** "Switches now: **$X today** for the time left in this period, then $Y a month." After you confirm: "You're on {plan} now."
- **During your free trial:** "Nothing is charged today. When your free trial ends, you're charged **$Y a month** and this plan's full pages start. The trial itself includes 1,000 pages."
- **At renewal:** "Switches on **{date}**, when your plan renews, to $Y a month. Nothing changes until then, and there's no refund for the current period." After you confirm: "{plan} starts on {date}. Until then nothing changes."

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Important:** A change that happens now is charged to your card straight away. If the charge fails, nothing changes and you see "The change couldn't be charged, so nothing changed. Check your card in Manage billing and try again."
{% endhint %}

## Keep your current plan

A change scheduled for renewal shows on the **Your plan** card: "Changes to **{plan} · monthly** on {date}. Until then nothing changes."

- To cancel it, click **Keep my current plan**. You see "Kept your current plan."
- Choosing another plan also replaces the scheduled change.

## Manage billing

Click **Manage billing** in the **Billing** page header to open Stripe's secure billing portal. It reads **Opening…** while the portal loads. There you can update your card, download invoices or cancel your subscription. When you return, you land back on **Billing**.

If your last payment failed, the **Your plan** card shows **Payment due — update your card in Manage billing**, and plans can't be changed until you do.

## When you can't change plans here

The **Change plan** card appears only for subscriptions on one of the three current plans.

- An original unlimited plan keeps unlimited use and has no **Change plan** card: "Your plan was sold with unlimited pages, and it keeps them."
- An **Enterprise** contract is changed by your ZeraBooks representative: "Your plan is a ZeraBooks contract. To change pages or billing, contact your ZeraBooks representative."
- With no subscription, click **Start your 7-day free trial**, or **Restart your subscription** if it ended.

Need higher volume or a custom solution? Click **Talk to us** at the bottom of the **Billing** page.

## Frequently Asked Questions

<details>
<summary>When does a plan upgrade take effect?</summary>

Immediately. You're charged today for the time left in the billing period, then the new price from your next renewal. Moving from monthly to yearly also happens now.
</details>

<details>
<summary>When does a downgrade take effect?</summary>

At your renewal. Nothing changes until then, and there are no refunds for the current period. Yearly to monthly works the same way.
</details>

<details>
<summary>Can I change plans during my free trial?</summary>

Yes. Nothing is charged today and the trial continues with its 1,000 pages; the plan you chose is charged when the trial ends, and its full pages start then. To start it sooner, click **Start my plan now**.
</details>

<details>
<summary>Can I start my plan before the trial ends?</summary>

Yes. Click **Start my plan now** on **Billing**. The trial ends today, the plan's price is charged to your card, and its full pages open at once.
</details>

<details>
<summary>What if my card is declined when I move up?</summary>

Nothing changes. You stay on your current plan. Update your card in **Manage billing** and try again.
</details>

<details>
<summary>How do I undo a downgrade I scheduled?</summary>

Click **Keep my current plan** on the **Your plan** card, next to the scheduled change.
</details>

<details>
<summary>How do I cancel my subscription?</summary>

Click **Manage billing** on **Billing** and cancel on Stripe's billing portal. Cancelling keeps everything until the end of the period you've paid for, and everything you converted stays in Convert.
</details>

<details>
<summary>What does "Billing couldn't be reached just now, so nothing changed." mean?</summary>

ZeraBooks couldn't reach the billing service, so your plan didn't change. Wait a minute and try again.
</details>

<details>
<summary>Why don't I see the list of plans?</summary>

Your plan isn't one that can be changed here: an original unlimited plan, an Enterprise contract, a payment that's due, or no subscription. See the **Your plan** card for what applies to you.
