# Investment statements

The Investments page reads brokerage and retirement statements: account values, holdings and cash activity, each proven against the statement's own figures.

## Open an investment statement

Upload brokerage and retirement statements on the **Investments** page: click **Upload statements** in the page header, or drop them anywhere on the page.

1. In the left navigation, click **Investments**.
2. Pick a statement under **Investment Statements** on the left.
3. It opens on the right. The toolbar shows the institution and the statement period.

## What each account shows

Each investment account on the statement gets its own section, headed "Investment account", the account name and last 4 digits, and its period.

### Values

A row of tiles: **Beginning value**, one tile for each movement the statement prints between the two values, and **Ending value**.

### Holdings

Every position, with **Symbol**, **Description**, **Quantity**, **Price** and **Market value**, then **Total holdings**. Cash positions show "Cash" as their symbol. If the statement lists none: "This statement lists no holdings."

### Cash activity

"Cash activity · n", with **Date**, **Description**, **Type** and **Amount** for each cash transaction. If there's none: "No cash activity this period."

## The proofs

ZeraBooks Convert checks four things for each account, whenever the statement prints the figures to check against:

| Proof | What must hold |
| --- | --- |
| Account value | Beginning value + activity and market change = ending value |
| Holdings | The positions add up to the total holdings printed |
| Prices | Quantity × price = market value, for every holding |
| Cash | Opening cash + cash activity = closing cash |

All figures must match to the cent. The banner at the top gives the result:

- **Proven:** "Proven: the account adds up to the statement to the cent." (or "every account adds up" when there are several).
- **Not proven:** "Needs a look before you download." The line for the failing proof says what's off, for example "— the statement says $A, off by $B."
- **No values:** "This statement prints no values to check against."

A holding whose quantity × price doesn't come to its market value is marked with an orange warning triangle.

## Editing

Investment statements can't be edited in Convert. If one was read wrongly, upload a clearer copy of the PDF. See [When a document can't be read](https://www.zerabooks.com/help/convert-documents/when-a-document-cant-be-read).

## Download investment statements

Open the document and click **Download** in its toolbar, then click **Excel** ("One workbook, a tab per table") or **CSV** ("A file per table, in one ZIP"). The file downloads at once, with no dialog. To download several documents in one file, tick them in the list on the left, click **Download n together** at the top of the list, then choose the file type.

Investment statements download in the **All details** format, with three sheets:

- **Summary**: one row per account and period, with the beginning value, deposits, withdrawals, dividends and interest, fees, change in value and ending value.
- **Holdings**: every position, with its account.
- **Activity**: every transaction, with its account. See [Download your data](https://www.zerabooks.com/help/convert-export/download-your-data).
