# What Zera knows about your business

Ask Zera remembers what you tell it about your business and keeps its own profile of the company, built from your books. It uses both in every chat, and you can read it any time under What Zera knows.

## What does Zera remember about my business?

Zera keeps two kinds of knowledge for each company, and uses both every time it works on your books.

| | What it is | Where it comes from |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **What you told it** | Facts and rules about your business, for example "Jorge is a 1099 contractor", "Uber rides are business travel" or "the Apple charges are our business iCloud" | Your own words in the chat, saved as you say them |
| **Zera's profile of the company** | What the business does, how money comes in and goes out, key vendors and customers and where they're filed, your rules, and what recurs each month | Your books and what you've told Zera, kept current in the background |

You never have to maintain either one. Zera updates them as it works.

## How does Zera learn about my business?

Just tell it, in the chat, in your own words:

- "Jorge is a 1099 contractor."
- "Uber rides are business travel."
- "The Apple charges are our business iCloud."
- "Maple Street Rentals is our landlord."

Zera saves the fact as you say it; you don't need to say "remember". When you correct something, the new fact replaces the old one. For example, "Actually, Uber rides are client meals" replaces "Uber rides are business travel".

To remove a fact, say "Forget that…" with words from it, for example "Forget that the Visa is personal." Zera confirms what it removed.

## What does Zera use it for?

- **Categorizing.** The categorization engine and Autopilot use the profile, so a vendor you've explained is filed the same way next time.
- **Answering Autopilot.** When Autopilot has a question you've already answered for Zera, Zera answers it for you instead of asking again.
- **Asking fewer questions.** Zera asks only what it doesn't already know.
- **Every new chat.** A **New chat** starts with everything you've taught Zera. See [What Ask Zera can do](https://www.zerabooks.com/help/ask-zera/what-ask-zera-can-do).

Zera stores only lasting knowledge. Balances, totals and what's still open are never stored; they're always read live from your books.

## How do I see what Zera knows?

1. Open Ask Zera: click the **Ask Zera…** bar, or press <kbd>⌘</kbd> <kbd>J</kbd> (<kbd>Ctrl</kbd> <kbd>J</kbd> on Windows).
2. On the **Suggested Prompts** screen, click **What Zera knows**, next to **Clear History**. If a chat is open, click **New chat** first.
3. Read **What Zera knows about** your company. It opens with a sentence on what the business does, then:
   - **Your rules**: what you've told Zera to do.
   - **Money in**: how money comes into the business.
   - **Money out**: what the business spends on.
   - **People and vendors**: who they are and where they're filed.
   - **What to expect**: what recurs, such as monthly rent or payroll.
4. Click **Back** to return to **Suggested Prompts**.

For a new company, the view says Zera builds it as it works on your books. It fills in after Zera's first job.

## How do I fix something Zera got wrong?

The view is read-only. To change it:

1. Click **Something's not right? Tell Zera** at the bottom of the view.
2. The chat opens with "Something in what you know about us isn't right:" ready to finish. Say what's wrong, for example "Jorge is an employee now, not a contractor."
3. Press <kbd>Enter</kbd>. Zera replaces the old fact and updates its profile.

To change past transactions to match, say so in the same message, for example "Move Jorge's payments this year to Wages."

## Who can see it?

What Zera knows belongs to the company, not to one person. Everyone who works on that company's books shares it, and Zera uses it in every chat for that company. It's never used for any other company.
